Ambato puts pedestrians back into the heart of their town centre

One year after signing The International Charter for Walking, the Mayor of Ambato, Ecuador has launched the works to put the heart and soul back into their town centre and reinvigorate their pedestrian spaces. Reclaimed public space, widened sidewalks and a cycling network are all part of their comprehensive plan.

The City seized the moment presented by the pandemic as an opportunity for change, to keep people moving when motorised modes were at a standstill and to prioritize people over cars.  We look forward to learning about how the community has embraced these changes.
